1. Who are the patrons of Limerick Community Special School?
 

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board is the state education and training authority for the Limerick and Clare region in Ireland. The authority plays a leading role in the provision of high quality education and training in the region.

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board schools provide an inclusive, student-centred and holistic education to students in our communities. Our schools, through excellence in education, aim to enable every student to realise their potential through the provision of highly supportive school communities that nurture students' intellectual, cultural, personal, social, emotional, moral and physical development.

All Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board schools are funded by the Department of Education.

2. What type of profile of Special Educational Need is catered for in this school?

Limerick Community Special School will cater for students with a diagnosis of:

A Moderate General Learning Difficulty with complex needs [GDD will not be accepted]

A recommendation from NEPS/ HSE/CDNT or private psychologist is also required with the diagnoses and complex needs which require a special school placement. This recommendation needs to be recent.

3. Will the school host an open night?

The school welcomes Parents/Guardians to make an appointment to visit the school.

5. What age range will the school cater for?

The school will cater for students from 4-18years

7. Will there be transport to and from school?

The Department of Education provides Special Transport for all children enrolled in their nearest special school which caters for their diagnoses. Your local SENO confirms that this is the case and the local SENO can provide more information on transport related queries.

8. Will there be bus escorts on this transport?

 The school can apply to the Department of Education for an escort to accompany children on the school bus where the child's care and safety needs while on school transport are such as to require the support of an escort. Where available, the professional report(s) are required to support this escort application must be submitted to the school by the parent/guardian.  

9. What subjects or curricula will be taught?

As a special school every effort and opportunity will be taken to provide a curriculum suited to your child's need with your input as parents/guardians. We will offer the National Primary Curriculum at primary level. At post primary level it is envisaged that there will be an offering of Junior Cycle Level 1 learning programmes and follow on Senior Cycle Learning programmes when available from the NCCA.
