The Department of Education (DE) announced the opening of Limerick Community Special School under the patronage of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board on 6 December 2023.
Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board was selected as the patron of the new Special School due to its extensive commitment and expertise in the establishment of Special Classes across all its Community National Schools, Community Colleges and Community Schools since 2019.
Minister for Education Norma Foley TD and Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Josepha Madigan TD confirmed the location of the new special school in Limerick on Friday, 22 March 2024.
Limerick Community Special School opened in September 2024 with 30 students. LCSS is based in Mungret College, Mungret, Co. Limerick. Our school enrolment will be growing in September 2025 to 48 students.
Limerick Community Special School is a state school, multi-denominational and co-educational. Limerick Community Special School is underpinned by the ETB core values of Excellence in Education, Care, Respect, Equality and Community.
